The meaning of 38 Women's Day
March 8th International Women's Day, that is, International Working Women's Day, the full name of the "United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace". It is on March 8 every year to celebrate the important contributions and great achievements of women in the economic, political and social fields. It also commemorates the more than 140 women who died in the Triangle Factory fire in New York in 1911.
In 1908, nearly 15,000 women took to the streets of New York to demand shorter working hours, higher wages, and the right to vote, chanting bread and roses, a symbol of economic security and quality of life.
Women's Day was first celebrated on February 28, 1909, when the Socialist Party of America issued a proclamation calling for an annual observance on the last Sunday of February. This annual celebration continued until 1913.
In 1910, the Socialist International held its first International Conference on Women in Copenhagen, Denmark. At the meeting, ClaraZetkin, the leader of the German women's movement, proposed to set a day as International Women's Day, which received a positive response from the delegates.
On March 19, more than one million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland celebrate International Women's Day. Six days later, on March 25, the famous Triangle Factory fire in New York City killed more than 140 women garment workers, most of them Italian and human rights immigrants. Poor working conditions are believed to be the main cause of such heavy casualties. The fire later had an important impact on labor legislation in the United States.
The earliest pioneer of the women's movement in our country was Ms. He Xiangning. It has been 100 years since March 8, 1909, when women in Chicago marched for "equality between men and women". Chinese women, like women in other countries, have made tremendous contributions and sacrifices to national independence, liberation, revolution and development, as well as to world peace and human development and progress.
